HoD's Message

My persistent and consistent efforts as Head of the Department are to provide best plate form to the female students for women employment. We equip our students in such a way that they become best human resource for the overall development of the society. Our staff is easily accessible to the students for any consultation regarding curricular, co-curricular activities. Consequently, our students participate in various activities which take place in inter-college and intra-college level. Our department in normal  routine conducts counselling sessions at the entry-level i.e. BG- Ist year to motivate them towards sociology by acquainting them regarding the diversity and the scope of the subject and as such our enrolment has increased rapidly during last few years.

 

Introduction

Sociology is the youngest branch of social sciences. Its major concern is society; and hence it is popularly known as "Science of Society". It studies the nature and character of human society and also its origin, and development, structure and functions. At the personal level, sociology investigates the social causes and consequences of such things as racial and gender identity, family conflict, deviant behaviour, ageing and religious faith. At the societal level sociology examines and explains matters like crime and law, poverty and wealth, prejudice and discrimination, schools and education, business forms, urban community and social movements. At the global level sociology studies such phenomena as population growth and migration, war, peace and economic development. Sociology yield powerful insights into the social process shaping human lives and social problems and prospects in the contemporary world. Briefly speaking, Sociology studies Social Institutions, Social Relationships, Social Processes, Social Problems.
