About the department

The Honorable Supreme Court of India in its order dated 06-12-1999 in WP No. 860/1991 has directed that appropriate steps be taken to introduce Environmental Sciences/Studies course in all universities and affiliated colleges. The University Grants Commission in pursuant to this order had designed syllabus for Environmental Sciences/Studies for undergraduate courses for all branches of Higher Education to be compulsorily implemented and the same was communicated to the universities on 24-07-2003. It is in this backdrop that Environmental Sciences/Studies department was established in all the colleges in 2004 and the subject of Environmental Sciences/Studeis started since then. Since our college was established in 2011, so the subject started in 2011. The department actively engages the students in different environment related activities like World Environment Day Celebrations on different themes, webinars, painting and quiz Competitions on various themes like water conservation, ecosystem restoration, plantations drives, cleanliness drives, field trips etc.

Vision

The department is committed to strive for excellence in teaching and aims to create quality, human resources who master knowledge, skill and leadership to address current and evolving environmental challenges for self-reliance, sustenance and betterment of the society.

Mission

The importance of Environmental Sciences and its need as a subject cannot be disputed. The degradation of our environment is linked to continuing problems of pollution, loss of forests, solid waste disposal and issues related to ecological security i.e., maintenance of ecological balance. The increasing level of global warming, ozone layer depletion and loss of biodiversity have made everyone aware of growing environmental concerns. The United Nations Conference on Human Environment (UNCHE) or Stockholm Conference, 1972, followed by United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) at Rio De Janerio Brazil or Earth Summit 1992 and World Summit on Sustainable Development at Johannesburg South Africa in 2002 have drawn the attention of people around the globe to the condition of our Environment. It is this mission of environmental intellectuals which we have to take forward by imparting and transferring knowledge and skills to students related to management of environment at international, national, local and individual level.
